Kari Bird, of Indianapolis, IN, a mother who works full time and is also attending law school, arrived home from a long day around 11:30pm.

That’s when she was approached by a group of teenagers, at least one of whom was armed.

The teens demanded the Bird’s car keys, which she initially started to hand over.

However, Bird realized her expensive law school books were also in the car. She made a decision not to be victim.

Bird quickly grabbed her own gun from her center console and pointed it at the armed teen.

Once they realized they were facing an armed citizen, the teens fled without further incident.

Bird said the boys looked like teenagers and as a mom, she can’t get that out of her head.

“If these were my kids and they were out at 11:30 at night, terrorizing women, I would scare the life out of them,” Bird said.

She doesn’t want to be an example for whether or not you should carry a gun, but said that she does want everyone—especially women—to keep their own safety in mind.

“You have to be aware of what can happen,” Bird said.

This is another great example of a defensive gun use in which no shots were fired and no one was hurt. Because of this fact, this incident likely won’t make it into many of the studies on defensive gun uses, which often only look at incidents where someone was actually shot.
