Cops in D.C. Are Under Orders to Arrest Tourists with Empty Bullet Casings

The gun control crazies in Washington D.C. are really cracking down on tourists.  Not terrorists, but tourists.  According to the Washington Examiner the police in Washington are under new orders to arrest any tourists or out-of-towners who are in possession of spent bullet or shotgun casings.

Apparently even spent bullet casings are considered ammunition and carry a $1,000 fine, a year in jail, and a criminal record.  These casing are illegal to possess in the district unless you are a resident of D.C. and have a gun registration certificate (which takes a TON of red tape to get).

The Examiner says that a tourists could easily unknowingly get in trouble with the law after a routine traffic stop.

Under the law, live or empty brass and plastic casings must be carried in a special container and unavailable to drivers. Having one, for example, in a cup holder or ash tray is illegal.

It’s not that uncommon for a gun owner to carry a few of these casings around or have them sitting in the ash tray.   So getting turned into a criminal for carrying an innocuous brass casing seems a bit overboard.  But then again, this is what we have come to expect from D.C. even while gun control laws have done nothing but empower the real criminals.

Even having a brass casing in your pockets could put you in hot water.  Not that the casing is a danger to anyone.  In fact those nail clippers that the TSA used to ban are more dangerous than an empty bullet casing.  If anyone can tell us how this law helps stop out of control gun violence in D.C. we’re all ears.
