“With a force of 60,000 civilian, military and contract support personnel, NAVSEA engineers, builds, buys and maintains the Navy’s ships and submarines and their combat systems,” the Navy said.

The shooter is described as being of medium complexion, around 6 feet tall, and wearing black.

There are also unconfirmed reports via Twitter sources that there may be a second shooter, but these remain unconfirmed.

D.C. has some of the strictest gun ownership laws in the country and firearms are extremely regulated on military installations.

This is another example of a mass shooting taking place in a “gun-free” zone. That is, areas where normal citizens are not permitted to have guns.
