Gear Review: Brownell’s 3-gun Competition Bag

For the past few months, I’ve been using Brownell’s soft case for storage and transportation to both my local range, and for airplane rides across the country. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the bag, and here are some of the reasons why.
3-gunners have a lot of gear. Imagine all the gear you need for one gun, and basically multiply it by 2x-3x. Having one bag to carry all three guns is a very nice arrangement. Inside the main compartment, there is room for two long guns which is separated by a thick foam divider. Straps on each side keep the long guns in place. Nice padding lines the edges of the bag as well.

The pistol compartment is on an outer pocket, which consists of a padded nylon pouch to store your pistol. You’re now left with two sizable outer pockets to store magazines, tools, ammo, etc.
Mags, wrenches, chokes, and other tools needed out on the range can be stored in two good size pockets.

The Brownell’s 3-gun bag also comes with shoulder straps which are very useful. My one suggestion to the Brownell’s team is to increase the padding on the straps since all that weight on one’s shoulders could use more support.

When flying to matches, I simply throw my Brownell’s bag into my SKB hardcase and lock it up. Some 3-gunners have custom-cut foam inside of their case, but then they have to lug their bulky hard case to the range. With my arrangement, I can leave the hard case at the hotel room and simply carry the soft case. The Brownell’s case will fit in most sedan trunks and I like not having to fold down a back seat (like I have to do when traveling with a hard case) which announces to any passersby that there is something valuable in the car. Note: The SKB case will not typically fit in sedan trunks unless you drop a back seat.

The case is available in 48″ and 54″ lengths. All pictures shown here are of the 54″ model.
The Brownell’s case is made of durable nylon and has treated me well the past few months while I’ve been actively shooting and traveling. I look forward to many more months and years of use.
