SWAT Officer is Shot at Reading Event When Child Pulls Trigger on Holstered Glock

A SWAT officer was at a reading event in Lodi California when he was shot in the leg.  Apparently a child was able to pull the trigger on his holstered Glock 35 when he was not paying attention, according to Dailykos.com.  VIDEO of story is at the end of this article.
“It doesn’t have an external safety or anything like that,” explained Lt. Sierra Brucia. “The gun functioned how it was supposed to. When the trigger was pulled, the gun went off.”
Witnesses say the child was 6-8 years old and he was able to walk up to the officer and pull the trigger.  The gun went off while the officer was showing off the SWAT vests and other tactical gear.
The .40 caliber round struck the officer in the leg.  He was transported to the hospital and then released the same day.  The Lodi police department is currently investigating the situation to see of any protocols were breached and to make sure this does not happen again.

At the time of the writing of this article the police were still looking for the boy and his parents so they could ask him questions about how he was able to access the trigger.
The 5-year SWAT officer had a Glock 35 holstered at his hip, but this gun had a light attachment as well.  It is believed the added attachment may have caused the trigger to be more accessible, but the investigation is ongoing.
