Obama Kills the 110 Year Old Civilian Marksmanship Program with Executive Order

I guess it should not surprise us that President Obama is making good on his promise to use his executive powers to enact more gun control.  After all, the promises to squash our freedoms are about the only promises he has kept.

But his new executive order on Thursday has stirred up a lot of gun owners, especially those that have served this great country in the U.S.. military.   The White House announced that its executive order would “ban almost all re-imports of military surplus firearms to private entities”.
Even though the order makes the feeble attempt to make it look like its stopping criminals from using military grade weapons, what this executive order really does is kill a 110 year old Civilian Marksmanship Program, according to the Daily Caller.  The program was started by the government in 1903 to help civilians to practice their marksmanship skills should they ever be called back in for military service.
The CMP was tightly regulated to control the distribution of obsolete military firearms.  Not only did participants have to comply with all state and federal laws and go through a background check before getting their guns through an FFL dealer.   They also had to be a member of a CMP shooting club, which would make it very difficult for anyone else to make use of the program.

It should be noted that an imported surplus military rifle has never been used in  homicide in any reported data.  So think about who this law really affects.  And then ask yourself whose side this president is really on.
The White House has made exceptions for this order for museums to be able to keep the old imported firearms.
The typical firearms this order will prohibit from being imported are pre-Vietnam era rifles which many firearm enthusiasts and ex-military veterans have long treasured and passed on to their families.
