ATI “Fatboy” Double Stack Compact 1911

I was finally able to handle a 1911 I’ve been curious about for a long time the ATI FX 1911 “Fat Boy”. This compact 1911 is a double stack that holds ten or twelve rounds of 45 acp ammunition. The finish is a Matte blue and is a lightweight configuration. The weight was not available today but appeared to be in the lower 30oz range.

The grip is very comfortable and is not wide enough to pose a problem for those with medium size hands. The ATI folks have made some changes since the first version came out.Notably the previous grip panels were built into the frame. They have added grips that lean more towards the grips we are accustomed to.The sights are Novak like. The trigger pull is about five pounds with a short take-up with a crisp release. An extended beavertail is standard.

The small size and magazine capacity along with good ergonomics make this a 1911 worth taking a good look at. MSRP is $699 but I’m sure the price a buyer will actually see would be about $100 less.
